When it was announced that Ranveer Singh had replaced Shah Rukh Khan in Don 3, there were mixed reactions on social media. Some people are excited to see what he brings to the character, while others believe there is no actor better than SRK to play Don. Now, actor-director Farhan Akhtar has revealed why he decided to cast the Dil Dhadakne Do actor in the third installment.
On Raj Shamani's podcast, Farhan Akhtar said that the script of Don 3 required him to cast a next-generation actor. Farhan praised Ranveer for being charming, mischievous, and an energetic person. The Lakshya director believes that Singh has not played a character like he will in Don 3. According to Farhan, the actor has mostly played loud characters, except in Vikramaditya Motwane's Lootera.
Furthermore, Farhan Akhtar revealed that Don 3 requires a different performance from Ranveer Singh. There's a certain holding inside Ranveer that is needed, and he hasn't explored that as an actor yet. So Akhtar believes playing Don will be a nice challenge for the actor to be able to tap into that side of him. Further, Farhan confirmed that he and SRK had creative differences while working on Don 3, regarding the script. Hence, a trilogy with Khan didn't happen. Hence, both of them decided to move on from the franchise.
Meanwhile, along with Ranveer Singh, Don 3 also stars Kiara Advani. The details of her character are not out yet. Farhan's Don also stars Priyanka Chopra in the lead role. Before SRK, Amitabh Bachchan played the iconic character in the 1978 movie.
