Mercedes-Benz has brought its groundbreaking concept car, the Project Maybach by Virgil Abloh, to India for the first time. Showcased at the prestigious Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, this all-electric off-roader is a testament to the late fashion designer’s visionary collaboration with the luxury automaker.
Originally unveiled in December 2021, Project Maybach is a bold reinterpretation of luxury and off-road capability. Designed by the late Virgil Abloh, renowned for his work at Louis Vuitton, this concept car embodies his unique aesthetic and Mercedes-Benz’s engineering prowess. The car remains on display at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre until October 31, 2024, offering a rare opportunity to witness this automotive masterpiece.
The Project Maybach is a striking vehicle with imposing proportions and a distinctive two-tone paint scheme. Its elongated front overhang, large wheel arches, and upright stance create a commanding presence. The car’s exterior is further enhanced by chunky off-road tires, a prominent light bar, round headlamps, and auxiliary lights. The rear echoes the boxy design with round taillights and a rugged aesthetic.
Inside, the Project Maybach blends luxury with functionality. The interior combines analog and digital elements, including a large, retractable touchscreen and physical controls. The focus on comfort is evident in the jacquard houndstooth-finished headrests, which double as blankets. The overall color palette complements the exterior, creating a harmonious ambiance.
While specific powertrain details remain undisclosed, Mercedes-Benz hints at an extended range by integrating solar panels under the car’s transparent hood.
The Project Maybach joins a distinguished lineup of concept cars showcased by Mercedes-Benz in India, including the Vision Maybach 6, Concept EQG, and Mercedes-AMG Vision Gran Turismo. This latest addition reaffirms the German automaker’s position as an automotive design and technology pioneer.
