Nissan Motor India (NMIPL) has made a bold entry into the Indian SUV market with the launch of the all-new, fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail. Priced competitively at INR 49.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), this “Made in Japan” CBU SUV is set to disrupt the segment with its groundbreaking technology.
At the heart of the X-Trail lies its most impressive feature: the world’s first production Variable Compression Turbo engine. This innovative powertrain combines a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with a 12V mild-hybrid system to deliver a potent 163hp and 300Nm of torque. Nissan’s patented variable compression technology intelligently adapts the engine’s compression ratio to optimize performance or fuel efficiency based on driving conditions.
The X-Trail’s reputation precedes it. As a global bestseller with over 450,000 units sold in 2023 and a total of 7.8 million units since its inception, it has firmly established itself as a top-tier SUV. Its arrival in India as a Japanese CBU marks a significant step for Nissan in the country.
Beyond its technological prowess, the X-Trail offers a luxurious and versatile driving experience. A spacious seven-seater cabin, advanced safety features, and a host of modern amenities contribute to its appeal.
Frank Torres, President of Nissan India Operations, expressed the company’s excitement about the X-Trail’s launch, highlighting its technological superiority and global success. Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, emphasized the vehicle’s significance in relaunching the company’s CBU business and signaling a broader product offensive in India.
With its combination of power, efficiency, technology, and comfort, the Nissan X-Trail is poised to make a significant impact on the Indian SUV market. Its competition will include established players like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian, and MG Gloster.
