ArmInfo. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan left a post on the X microblog regarding the end of service of Russian border guards at the Yerevan Zvartnots airport.
"From 14:00 on July 31, 2024, passport control by Russian border guards will no longer be carried out at the Zvartnots international airport in Armenia. We wish the Armenian border guards good and safe work," Simonyan wrote.
On July 31, Russian border guards officially ended their service at the Zvartnots airport in Yerevan (Armenia), where they served for 32 year
The initiative for the withdrawal belongs to the Armenian side. On February 27, 2024, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated at a briefing that the employees of the Russian FSB border service should stop working at the capital's airport. Simonyan expressed doubt that Russian border guards would protect Armenia's borders if necessary. "It has been confirmed several times that they did not protect, they did everything to make the borders much more vulnerable. They came to Karabakh, what did they do? They sent the Armenian people away," he said.
