ArmInfo. Paris is participating in the program for the reconstruction of the Tatev Monastery Complex and the Great Tatev Desert. This was written by the French Ambassador to Armenia Olivier Decottignies on his X account.
Tatev Monastery is one of the pearls of the Armenian cultural heritage and symbolizes the country's identity, he emphasized.
The Tatev Monastery Complex group of monuments was included in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 1995.
At the end of last year, Grigor Amirzayan, a member of the National Assembly of Western Armenia, wrote in his Twitter microblog that within the framework of the Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in Armed Conflicts, the Tatev Monastery Complex and the Great Tatev Desert, as well as the Vorotan River Gorge, have been granted enhanced protection status by UNESCO.
The first to initiate the restoration of the monastery complex was the philanthropist, patron and businessman Ruben Vardanyan, who has been in a Baku prison for 10 months on a trumped-up charge. In particular, on his initiative, the Tatev Revival project was launched in 2008. The latter envisaged the reconstruction of the medieval Armenian monastery, the revival of academic and spiritual traditions, as well as measures to develop tourism infrastructure and improve the well-being of the local population. In 2010, within the framework of the program, the Dzit-Khan oil mill was restored, in 2015 the Northern Entrance was restored, in 2018 - the Church of St. Astvatsatin, in 2019 - the museum part of the Complex.
