ArmInfo. "Armenia and Azerbaijan continue to make significant progress toward the final formulation of a peace agreement, and we are committed to supporting this process. The time for peace has come!" reads a statement by the US State Department in response to questions from the Armenian service of the Voice of America about the Armenian-American military exercises and Baku's reaction.
The US State Department recalled the long-standing partnership between the United States and Armenia. The department added that an example of this is Armenia's long-standing partnership with the Kansas National Guard within the framework of the US Department of Defense State Partnership Program.
"The United States has a separate defense and security relationship with Azerbaijan, including cooperation in multinational exercises such as the recent Agile Spirit in Georgia, in the NATO Partnership for Peace format, and in a number of other bilateral formats such as the U.S. Department of Defense's National Partnership Program," the State Department noted. Regarding the prospects for changes in U.S. foreign policy after the presidential election, the State Department recalled that it is a non-partisan structure. "The foreign policy of the U.S. government may change under different presidential administrations, however, the core principles of U.S. foreign policy remain unchanged, which include promoting security, democracy, prosperity, and development in the United States and around the world," the department concluded.
