Ranbir Kapoor has been a candid talker. Even though he has been a private person, he has often at length about his equation with his father Rishi Kapoor, life with Alia Bhatt and daughter Raha Kapoor. In a recent interaction with Nikhil Kamath, Ranbir Kapoor once again spoke candidly about a lot of stuff including his father Rishi Kapoor's death. He recalled the night in the hospital when doctors told him that Rishi Kapoor would pass away any moment.

In the interview, Ranbir Kapoor shared that he stopped crying a long time ago. He shared that he did not even cry when Rishi Kapoor passed away. He added that he was the one spending the night at the hospital and the doctors told him 'This is his last night, he is going to go anytime soon.' Ranbir then recalled that he did not cry but he went to a room and having a panic attack as he did not know how to express himself and it was too much to take. He also added, 'But I don't think I have grieved, understood the loss.' In the same interview, he also spoke about the guilt he and Rishi Kapoor felt due to the distance between them. Ranbir spoke about the 45 days he spent with Rishi Kapoor in New York when the veteran actor was undergoing treatment. The Animal actor shared that once Rishi Kapoor came upto him and started crying and it was awkward for him as that is when he realised the distance. He said, "I feel guilty that I didn't have the grace to let go off the distance between us and go and hug him, give him some love." Ranbir also spoke about his childhood and the fights he witnessed between his parents.
Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30, 2020. It was during the pandemic that he breathed his last. Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and others were at his last rites. Daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahani could not travel down to Mumbai from Delhi to attend her father's last rites.
