The new HS boasts a more sophisticated and dynamic design. Its increased dimensions, with a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs, contribute to a more spacious interior and a sleeker profile. The SUV is now 14mm wider and up to 45mm longer, sitting 30mm lower than its predecessor. MG’s latest design language is evident in the front grille and slimmer headlights connected by a central black panel.
The second-gen HS offers two powertrain options. A refined 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine delivers 168 bhp and 275 Nm of torque, accelerating the SUV from 0-100 kph in 9.4 seconds. This engine can be paired with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option delivers a substantial power boost for those seeking more performance. The 1.5-liter petrol engine is combined with an electric motor to produce a combined output of 206 bhp, slashing the 0-100 kph time to 6.8 seconds. The PHEV’s 24.7 kWh battery offers an electric-only range of 120 km and supports bidirectional charging.
Inside, the HS features a modern and tech-centric cabin. Two 12.3-inch high-definition displays dominate the dashboard, providing infotainment and driver information. Trophy models include additional features like a 360-degree camera and wireless smartphone charging.
MG Motor India, in partnership with JSW, is gearing up for a series of new car and SUV launches. While not confirmed, the new HS could be a potential addition to the Indian lineup, positioned above the Hector and below the Gloster. The UK-spec HS is priced at Rs 27.09 lakh (£24,995).
With its enhanced design, advanced powertrains, and cutting-edge technology, the new MG HS aims to strengthen its position in the competitive SUV market.
