ArmInfo. The West is trying to pull Armenia away from its allies, although the examples of other
countries show what this leads to. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the CSTO Viktor Vasilyev stated this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, the CSTO sees overt attempts by the West to shake
up the situation in the Caucasus region and Iran. "A difficult
situation is developing in the Caucasus region, where we also see
overt attempts by Western countries to shake up the situation,"
Vasiliev said.
In addition, the permanent representative continued, Western
countries are trying to interfere in the situation in countries
neighboring Armenia, which also worries the CSTO, since if the
situation in these countries destabilizes, this will become one of
the security threats for all CSTO member states. "These attempts are
visible and obvious, including in relation to neighboring Iran.
Naturally, if the situation in the Caucasus destabilizes, this will
be one of the real security threats for all CSTO member states,"
Vasiliev noted.
Armenia suspended its participation in the CSTO, believing that the
Organization had not fulfilled its obligations to ensure the security
of the Armenian state.
