The fifth vice chancellor (VC) of the University of Uyo (Uniuyo), Akwa Ibom state has emerged, and it is in the person of Prof Enefiok Essien who was allegedly indictment for sexual assault and forgery by the Court of Appeal.
Professor Enefiok Essien allegedly assaulted a female student and was indicted for the crime by a court of appeal.
Prof Essien assumed office as vice chancellor of Uniuyo on Monday, November 30.

The appointment reportedly generated controversy and tension, as the immediate past vice chancellor of the university, Prof Comfort Ekpo, wrote to the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, suggesting that Mr Essien’s inauguration be suspended because of his ‘fractured integrity’.
The former VC of Uniuyo, Prof Comfort Ekpo, wrote to the education minister, requesting that Essien’s inauguration be put on hold due to certain integrity issues.
In her letter to the minister, Ekpo said: “I most respectfully submit that the inauguration of the new vice chancellor slated for December 1, 2015 temporarily be suspended to provide a window for any reasonable grievances to be looked into by your ministry and council as may be deemed appropriate.”

The letter to the education minister was sent on Tuesday, November 17.
According to witnesses who spoke to pressmen in Uyo, the handover ceremony went hitch free.

Prof Essien who is 55-years-old, was the dean of the faculty of law at Uniuyo. Investigations reveal that he was involved in a sexual assault case which led to the expulsion of a female student, Linda Onyebuchi Essell.
Essell was rusticated over her alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
