Lemar – Higher Love, exclusive video premiere: watch the British singer’s soulful reinvention
If there’s one word that sums up Lemar’s Higher Love, it’s warmth.
In keeping with the R&B star’s soulful direction on latest album The Letter, the British singer’s latest single has it all: a gospel choir, blasting horns, and Lemar’s smooth vocals front and centre.
Produced by music legend Larry Klein, who has previously worked with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, and Mary Black, it’s the perfect antidote to any sense of winter blues.
Higher Love is one of three original tracks on Lemar’s seventh album, which was recorded at EastWest Studios in LA, where Frank Sinatra and Marvin Gaye laid down some of their most famous vocals.
Take an exclusive look at the music video for Higher Love below – a laid back clip which sees Lemar performing the song in a studio, highlighting the emotion and, yes, warmth of the lyrics.
“It is a classic soul track, full of shifting optimism and joy in its message and we all need as much as we can of that in life,” Lemar says. “Jerry Hey did a great job arranging and recording it, particularly the very uplifting horn section which plays a big part in the song.
“I really enjoyed recording it and my hope for it as one of the original songs on the record is that it stands up with the more established songs on the album.”
