Sydney (dpa) - An Australian who joined a Kurdish militia unit to fight against Islamic State has been charged by German authorities as a terrorist and will be deported to Australia, it was reported Friday.Ashley Dyball, 23, was detained by German authorities two days ago while he was in the country taking a break from the battlefield, the broadcaster ABC reported.Dyball, who also uses the alias Mitchell Scott, posted on Facebook Friday he had been charged as a terrorist and was being sent to the Eisenhuettenstadt Detention Centre near the German border with Poland. He said he will be deported to Australia on Sunday.The Brisbane man has been fighting against Islamic State since early 2015 alongside Kurdish militia group YPG in northern Syria. Two Australians have been killed fighting with YPG.His family told the ABC they want the Federal Government to grant an amnesty from the tough foreign fighters legislation applied to those battling the Islamic State group.Under Australian law any citizen who joins an armed group trying to overthrow a recognised government could face charges.A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told the ABC it was providing consular assistance "to an Australian man detained in Germany", but would not comment further.
