Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan refutes the opposition's accusations that the constitutional reforms aim to facilitate the possible cession of the districts surrounding Karabakh.
"How can the Armenian Constitution regulate issues related to Nagorno-Karabakh? These territories are under Karabakh's control. And how can a president of Armenia - no matter who he is - make any territorial concessions?" Serzh Sargsyan said at a press conference.
"As regards the opposition's allegations concerning rigged elections, if it has any facts, let it present them," Sargsyan said, also refuting the statements that the constitutional reforms are aimed at creating a shadow power in Armenia. "There can be nothing of the kind in Armenia," he said. When asked why he decided to initiate the constitutional reforms, along with other reasons the president pointed out the fact that the current form of government provides the winners with "everything" and gives "nothing" to the losers.
He also stressed that the constitutional reforms are needed for formation of parties. "Armenia is probably in the lead in the world by the number of its parties per capita," he said.
