Arms Deal: Don’t Exempt Jonathan From Probe, Activist Urges EFCC

Segun Lema, an activist has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Department of State Services (DSS) not to spare anybody suspected to be connected with ongoing arm deal investigation.

He especially called for the probe of the immediate past president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan saying that ex-president should not be treated as sacred cow in the current investigation to expose those behind $21. billion arm deal.

The Activist said that Jonathan as the consenting authority in the best position to tell Nigerians the role he played in the arms scam, The Nation reports.

Lema added that Nigerians expected explanation from Jonathan on what conspired in the arms scandal.

The EFCC had picked the chairman of DAAR Communication, Raymond Dokpesi, former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki 9rtd), Amb Bashir Yuguda and Atahiru Bafarawa over their involvement in the fraud.

Also, the military authority had invited former defence chiefs, Air Vice Marshall Alex Badeh 9rtd, Lt-Gen Azubuike Ihejirika over their invoivement in the scam.

Lema stressed that the invitation of Jonathan would throw more light on the issue and unravel the mystery around the misapplied fund.

He called on the anti-graft agency to investigate all those that are involved in the scam.

Lema frowned as those Nigerians seen a beacon of hope could out of selfishness worked against the collective interest of the country in their quest to enrich themselves at the detriment of the war against terrorism.

The legal expert called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that all stolen funds are recovered and those that found guilty punish according to the law.

Meanwhile, Bode George, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party and the former Rivers state governor Peter Odili had been named among beneficiaries of about N100 million each from the embattled former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki.
