Dusseldorf, Germany (dpa) - German police on Thursday searched the homes of four Islamists suspected of attempting to obtain forged French passports but no arrests were made, a prosecutorial spokesman said. There is no evidence to associate them with last month‘s terrorist attacks in Paris, Martin Steltner, a spokesman for the state of Berlin prosecutor‘s office, told dpa. Nor was there any evidence the four might be terrorists. The police searched two premises in the western city of Dusseldorf and one home in the town of Schwelm in the central highlands of Germany. All the locations are in the state of North Rhine Westphalia. The spokesman said prosecutors believe the suspects attempted to obtain fake passports in Berlin, adding that computers and papers had been seized. An unnamed source told dpa that a semi-secret commando-style unit attached to Germany‘s federal police, known only by its squad name GSG9, took part in the raids. Steltner said 80 police personnel in were involved in total.
