We are too late with the Artsakh issue, Raffi Hovannisyan, Leader of oppositional Heritage Party, told at the New Armenia Front rally on Dec 2.
Hovannisian brought the example of the western countries that have recognized Kosovo, but refuse to recognize the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. Russia recognized Abkhazia and is a mediator in the Karabakh peace process, he said and urged Armenia to seek the roots of the problem in its own mistakes, not in other countries. "We must settle this issue by our own and do it within the coming weeks," he said.
Hovannisian harshly criticized the policy of the Armenian authorities saying the "Yes" headquarters advocating for the Constitutional amendments have been created in the budgetary funds. "The party state must be overthrown for the free Armenia to revive. It will the country having no political prisoners," he said.
To recall, round-the-clock actions of protests started after the large-scale rally on December 1. The rallies will last till Dec 6, the day of the constitutional referendum. Zhirayr Sefilyan, the head of New Armenia Front of Public Salvation Headquarters says the protests gave a start to the process of power change. He said New Armenia will not let the Constitutional referendum take place. The Police, in turn, call on the protesters to act within the law.
