The wait for the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB in India might be nearing its end. The latest generation of this luxurious sedan unveiled globally in 2023, has been spotted undergoing testing completely undisguised at the Mercedes-Benz factory in Chakan, Pune.
Taking inspiration from the S-Class, the new E-Class boasts sleek flush door handles. A revised fascia, fresh LED DRL signature, and Mercedes logo-inspired taillights enhance its visual appeal. Chrome accents sprinkled throughout add a touch of elegance. This long-wheelbase version prioritizes rear-seat comfort with its impressive dimensions: 5,092 mm long, 1,880 mm wide, and 1,493 mm tall, riding on a spacious 3,094 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the new E-Class boasts “Superscreen” dashboard layout. This system features a dominant 14.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the center, flanked by a passenger-side screen and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver. Passengers in the rear can expect to be pampered with power-reclining seats with an ottoman function, air suspension for a smoother ride, and rear-wheel steering.
While the global offerings include six powertrain options, the India-specific E-Class LWB is expected to come with two engine choices – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, both likely featuring a mild-hybrid system for improved efficiency. Upon its launch, this new Mercedes will directly compete with established rivals like the BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 in the Indian luxury car market.
