Capital One Cup semis pit Everton against Manchester City as Stoke take on Liverpool
Everton will face Manchester City in the show piece Capital One Cup semi-final, with Stoke hosting Liverpool in the first leg of the other fixture.
That means the possibility still remains that Jurgen Klopp’s first Merseyside derby could be the League Cup final, though it would require Everton to upset the odds against favourites Manchester City.
Liverpool secured the final spot in the semi-final draw on Wednesday night, overcoming an early deficit to Southampton in emphatic style. Divock Origi netted a hat-trick and the returning Daniel Sturridge got two in a 6-1 away win.
On Tuesday Manchester City booked their place in the hat with a 4-1 victory over Hull City, whilst both Everton and Stoke defeated Championship sides (Middlesbrough and Sheffield Wednesday) 2-0.
The semi-finals are due to take place on the weeks of the 4 January and 25 January, with the final set for 28 February at Wembley.
Liverpool hold the record for League Cup victories, having triumphed eight times between 1981 and 2012. Manchester City have won the cup on three occassions,
Stoke City's only triumph came in 1972 against Chelsea, whilst two-time runners-up Everton have never won the trophy.
