2 San Bernardino shooting suspects dead after police pursuit

Two of the suspects in a deadly mass shooting that killed at least 14 people Wednesday morning in San Bernardino, California, are dead after a gun battle with police.

San Bernardino Chief Jarrod Burguan said he did not know if the the man and woman killed themselves or if they were shot by police. He said they both were armed with assault rifles and handguns, and wearing tactical gear; he did not know their ages or ethnicities. David Bowdich, the assistant director in charge of the FBI's Los Angeles office, said the relationship between the suspects is unknown.

Officers spotted a dark SUV matching the description of the suspected shooters' vehicle in the nearby city of Redlands Wednesday at around 3 p.m., and a pursuit began. The chase ended in San Bernardino, south of the San Bernardino International Airport and north of Interstate 10, and gunfire erupted. Witnesses said they heard "thousands" of rounds of gunfire, and a person seen running from the area was detained; Burguan said police do not know if he is a third suspect or was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

The shooting at the Inland Regional Center started at about 11 a.m., targeting a holiday party, and left at least 14 people dead and 17 wounded, according to police officials.
