Jungle Justice: See What Mob Did To Bike Thief In Lagos

 An angry mob in Lagos has lynched a man named Moses Uche, on allegations that he stole a motorcycle.

According to The Punch, the victim was battered to death by a mob in the Ajegunle area of Lagos state.

Further reports disclose that a security guard, Suleiman Sanni, has been arrested by the police in connection with Uche’s death.

Sanni was among a three-man security team guarding a house on Otubo street, Irawo, when the deceased sneaked in around 2am and was caught in the act.

The security man allegedly woke the residents of the house and a mob quickly formed around the 24-year-old Uche, and beat him with all manners of weapons, including but not limited to planks and iron rods.

Sanni was later arraigned at the Ebute-Meta magistrate’s court on a charge of murder.

The police prosecutor, Iyobosa Onaiwu, said the offence was punishable under Section 221 of the criminal law of Lagos tate, Nigeria, 2011.

Miss Ope-Agbe, the Magistrate, remanded Sanni in prison, after the court had heard and rejected the defendant’s plea.

The magistrate adjourned the case till Tuesday, January 19, 2016.

Sanni, an indigene of Katsina state,  told reporters that he did not touch the victim.

He said: “I was guarding a house with two others. Around 2am that night, I sighted the man entering a house and trying to steal a motorcycle.

When I challenged him, he said the motorcycle belonged to him. I alerted the residents of the house and they started hitting him.

I was even the one that rescued the victim and took him to the police station but he died two days later. I was arrested and taken to the station. Before I knew it, I was taken to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.”

Uche died after two days in police custody, it was on taking the victim in a wheelbarrow to the Ajegunle police division, that Sanni was promptly arrested.

In a similar incident, police in Lagos state have arrested four men at the Mushin area of the state following their involvement in a mob action which left a suspected thief blind and near dead.
