ArmInfo.Moscow finally issued an agreement to appoint Gurgen Arsenyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Russian Federation. The newspaper "Graparak" writes about this with reference to Russian sources.
"The request was sent back in the fall, but there were rumors for a long time that the agrement was rejected in Moscow. Our source reports that the decision was made on May 8, when Nikol Pashinyan went to Moscow for a meeting of the EAEU. He personally asked Vladimir Putin to accept Gurgen Arsenyan's agreement.
And the President of the Russian Federation decided to go to the meeting, because in the near future Russia will also change its ambassador to Armenia. Moscow had concerns that if it did not approve (the ambassador's agrement), then the RA authorities would reject their candidate. But this does not mean that Arsenyan will head to Moscow tomorrow. Vagharshak Harutyunyan must first be recalled. However, as a rule, current ambassadors ask to be given time to complete the work they have started and resolve personal issues," the publication notes.
It is also noted that if the RA authorities had not received consent, Gurgen Arsenyan could have resigned his mandate and left the ranks of the ruling faction of the State Duma, since he was dissatisfied with the policies pursued by the Civil Treaty, especially in the economic sphere.
Arsenyan himself refused to comment on this information, advising the newspaper to contact the Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry responded that the recall and appointment of heads of diplomatic missions is carried out by presidential decree, and then the public receives information about this.
Last autumn, the media wrote that the authorities decided to replace the current ambassador to the Russian Federation with Arsenyan. At the same time, it was reported that Moscow rejected the latter's candidacy. On October 24, in a conversation with journalists, Gurgen Arsenyan called media publications that Russia had refused to issue an agrement for his appointment as ambassador disinformation. At the same time, Arsenyan did not deny that the corresponding note for the issuance of an agreman was transferred to the Russian side.
