No, Leonardo DiCaprio Doesn’t Get Raped by a Bear in ‘The Revenant’

Rest assured, Leonardo DiCaprio does not get sexually violated by a bear in his upcoming drama “The Revenant” — despite one of the more bizarre reports making the rounds on the Internet Tuesday.

In the wake of the eyebrow-raising story — which found a place at the top of the Drudge Report — Fox felt compelled to set the record straight, emphasizing that the bear in the Alejandro G. Iñárritu film a) is female, and b) does not sexually molest the film’s leading man.

“As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs,” a Fox spokesperson told EW.com in a statement. “There is clearly no rape scene with a bear.”

The rather sordid report was published on the Drudge Report under the headline, “DiCaprio Raped by Bear in Fox Movie.”

“The bear flips Leo over and thrusts and thrusts during the explicit mauling,” the Drudge item reads, continuing, “He is raped — twice!”

The item also claims that the “explicit moment” in the film has “caused maximum controversy in early screenings,” adding that some some audience members exited “when the Wolf of Wall Street met the Grizzly of Yellowstone.”

In the film, DiCaprio plays explorer/fur trapper Hugh Glass, who’s attacked by a bear and left for dead, leading him to seek revenge on the fellow travelers who left him behind.
