Politifact: Most Criminals are Only Democrats Because They're Black

Politifact is a joke. (Literally. Since they once fact checked a Ted Cruz joke.)

We've long since passed the point of pretending that it has any credibility at all. It's just a matter of noting how it manages to beclown itself in its latest partisan attack. And there are lots of those.

This time Politifact took issue with Ted Cruz's statement that most violent criminals are Democrats. I'll skip past Politifact's usual antics of rating a claim false if it can somehow construct a shoddy argument that it might be false. And cut right to the end of its attack on Cruz.

Finally, it’s hard to draw a line between cause and effect, particularly given the disproportionately high population of African-Americans -- a traditionally Democratic group -- in the criminal justice system.

So Politifact is claiming that criminals are only Democrats because they're black? Is that really the racial argument they want to go with?

Apparently it is.

Actually dealing with the facts in question can be tricky because pollsters don't tend to poll felons. Any serious effort would involve a data intensive survey of voter registrations for ex-felons in states where they were endowed with voting rights. Politifact complains that no one surveyed active criminals, as opposed to ex-felons. I'm not sure how we would do that. Stop a mugger while he's mugging and ask him who he plans to vote for?

But the back of the envelope stuff is obvious and has always been obvious. The cities with the highest crime rates tend to be Democrat territory. If Politifact has completely lost its mind in its obsessive Captain Ahab pursuit of Ted Cruz, it might try the racial argument there too.
