Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the philanthropic arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL), is making significant strides in promoting art and culture across India.
Through its various art initiatives, HMIF has invested over ₹ 5.8 crores to support and uplift artists and art collectives nationwide.
HMIF’s commitment to promoting art and culture is evident through its diverse range of CSR programs, including Art for Hope and Artisan Fests. These initiatives provide a common platform for artists from different backgrounds to showcase their talent and celebrate India’s rich cultural heritage. The foundation’s investments have touched the lives of over 25,000 artists and art collectives across 27 States in India.
One of HMIF’s flagship programs, Art for Hope, has been instrumental in providing grants to over 100 artists and art collectives, totaling ₹ 1.05 crore. This initiative aims to support artists who are striving to preserve traditional art forms and explore new avenues of creativity. By awarding grants and fostering collaboration, Art for Hope is paving the way for positive change and cultural enrichment in India.
HMIF’s art programs have yielded remarkable results, with several artists making significant contributions to their communities:
Miriam Koshy’s Earthvist Collective is dedicated to preserving Goa’s natural ecosystem, particularly its mangroves. Through installations and documentaries supported by HMIF grants, the collective has raised awareness about the importance of mangrove conservation, sparking meaningful conversations within the community.
Tapan Moharana’s miniature-sized sculptures and installations explore the intersection of nature and society, addressing pressing environmental issues. His work, showcased at HMIF’s Art for Hope exhibition, reflects on the impact of landscape changes on local communities, using traditional art forms to convey powerful messages.
Chananji Khan, a Surmandal player from Rajasthan, is preserving a centuries-old musical tradition with HMIF’s support. His efforts to revive interest in the Surmandal have led to the creation of new instruments and training programs, ensuring the legacy lives on for future generations.
Tarun Sharma’s art focuses on social and environmental issues, prompting viewers to reflect on urban life and the plight of marginalized communities. Through workshops and exhibitions, he is raising awareness and fostering empathy towards societal challenges.
Tamsin Noronha’s innovative approach to art and conservation has made a significant impact in Goa. By repurposing plastic waste into art installations, she is not only raising awareness about environmental issues but also promoting sustainable practices within her community.
HMIF’s holistic approach to supporting art and culture is driving ‘Progress for Humanity’ by providing artists with the resources and platform they need to thrive. With continued investment and dedication, HMIF is shaping a brighter future for India’s artistic landscape.
