In just 45 days post the launch of Hyundai’s Creta facelift, the midsize SUV has garnered an astonishing 75,000 bookings, reflecting a robust market response.
This surge in demand prompted Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai India, to share intriguing insights into buyer behavior, waiting periods, and sales figures.
Diving into the specifics, a staggering 90 percent of buyers favored the mid-spec and top-spec variants of the Creta, emphasizing the appeal of enhanced features and safety provisions.
Notably, 43 percent of purchasers opted for the diesel model, defying expectations and highlighting continued interest in diesel-powered vehicles within the midsize SUV segment.
The unexpected surge in demand for the Creta diesel variant has led to an unprecedented waiting period, stretching up to 6 months.
Notably, choosing the manual option over the automatic transmission could expedite delivery by a few weeks. Meanwhile, petrol variants boast a more manageable wait time of approximately 2 months, with turbo-petrol options experiencing slightly longer delays.
February 2024 witnessed a remarkable 12 percent year-on-year growth for Hyundai, with 15,276 Cretas sold – the highest-ever recorded sales for the model in India.
Garg anticipates a further boost with the impending launch of the Creta N Line on March 11, projecting sales to surpass the 16,000 units per month milestone. This surge aims to surpass the 1.57 lakh units sold in 2023.
Disclosing crucial figures, Garg revealed a backlog of 97,000 pending bookings, with the Creta constituting half of this demand.
Hyundai, having production capabilities to 8,25,000 units annually, operates at 95 percent capacity utilization. With the recent acquisition of the Talegaon plant, mid-term plans involve elevating capacity to a whopping 10 lakh units per year.
Garg’s optimistic outlook underscores Hyundai’s commitment to meeting burgeoning demand. The brand’s strategic expansion and consistent production enhancements position it favorably to address the market’s appetite for the immensely popular Creta series.
