ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan considers the latest statement of 3rd President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan useful "on the path of revealing the truth."
On February 16, in a conversation with journalists, Serzh Sargsyan said that he decided to run for prime minister of Armenia in 2018 because he saw an impending disaster. In response to the remark that a wave of discontent arose when his candidacy was nominated again, Sargsyan said that this was not what caused the protest. "I could easily go home. The decision to run was not a matter of satisfying personal ambitions. I tried to prevent the imminent disaster facing the Armenian people," Sargsyan said.
"It is very important that today Serzh Sargsyan declares this in retrospect," Prime Minister Pashinyan said on February 28 during government hour in parliament, noting that, apparently, the 3rd president spoke about the difficulties that arose around resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
This statement, in the opinion of the Prime Minister, confirms the assessment of the current Cabinet of Ministers about the state of the negotiation process by 2018 (by the time of the "Velvet Revolution", ed. note). This also neutralizes the early statements of RPA representatives about diplomatic victories during 2017-2018, otherwise, in this case, there would not have been a state of impending catastrophe, Pashinyan believes.
"If disaster was imminent already in January 2018, then as a result of whose activities this disaster was approaching: And why was the Armenian people not informed about this impending disaster?" he asked. Moreover, the PM noted, even if we assume that during his presidency, Sargsyan was constrained by a number of obligations, it is not clear why after the 2018 revolution, the country's public was not aware of the impending disaster. And why the new government of the country was not informed about this, Nikol Pashinyan wondered.
