The first batch of teasers for Hyundai’s next Verna car have been made public. By May 2023, the brand-new Verna, internally known as BN7i, will be available for purchase. For the new Verna, the company has begun taking reservations at Rs 25,000. Hyundai has revealed facts on the upcoming Verna’s powertrain and variations in addition to the teasers and booking information.
The 2019 Hyundai Verna features an entirely new look that, as the teasers demonstrate, is influenced by a number of current-generation Hyundai sedans.
The new Verna features a stunning snout with a multiple layer headlamp setup similar to the latest-generation Hyundai Grandeur car sold abroad. The grille is nearly as broad as the automobile and features several cuts and wrinkles. The grille inserts resemble those seen on the Tucson SUV and the current-generation Elantra sedan, which isn’t available in the market. The 2017 Verna also gets a full-width horizontal light bar that serves as the LED daytime running lamp, as seen on other Hyundai models such as the Staria MPV and the Grandeur sedan.
The new Verna includes more cuts and folds than its predecessor and a sportier notchback appearance than a standard sedan. More creases on the doors and fenders are expected as seen on other Hyundai cars marketed in other countries.
The new Verna has a distinct appearance due to the bulging taillamps. The taillights are linked to an LED light bar and feature crystal-like inlays. Moreover, the light bar has two vertical extensions on each side, giving the car a distinct appearance.
The sedan is set to feature two 1.5-litre Engines – A brand-new 1.5-liter direct injection turbo-petrol engine with 160hp will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT transmission. This engine will eventually replace the 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine in most Hyundai-Kia cars in India, including the Creta, Seltos, and Carens.
The Verna’s entry-level engine will be a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with either a 6-speed manual or an IVT CVT automated transmission. This engine is intended to be the same one that currently powers the Creta, Seltos, and Carens.
The next-generation Hyundai Verna will not have a diesel engine option, making the midsize car segment petrol-only because no other competitor offers a diesel engine. Hyundai has also verified that the engines in the new Verna will be RDE and E20 (20% ethanol blend) compliant.
In terms of trim levels, the new Verna will be available in EX, S, SX, and SX(O). The 1.5-litre TGDI engine is expected to be available on higher models, while the 1.5-litre NA unit will be accessible on lower trims.
Hyundai will offer seven single-tone and two dual-tone exterior colour options for the 2019 Verna. The sedan now comes in three new paint colours: Abyss Black, Atlas White, and Tellurian Brown, according to the brand.
With bookings now open, Hyundai is expected to unveil further details on the new Verna in the coming days, with a pricing announcement before May of this year. The new Verna is expected to enter series production in the coming months and will be a much stronger competitor to the VW Virtus, Skoda Slavia, impending facelifted Honda City sedan, and ageing Maruti Suzuki Ciaz than its predecessor. The new Verna can be more expensive than the previous model, owing to the new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine.
