BACOLOD CITY — An elderly man died after he was stabbed by his nephew due to grudges at Barangay Bunga, Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on Monday, Oct. 31.
Killed was Melquizidict Baroy, 62, of Barangay Bago in this city.
Lt. Everly Canto, deputy chief of Don Salvador Benedicto Municipal Police Station, said that the suspect, Eddie Mar Baroy, 30, also of Barangay Bago, confronted his uncle after the latter allegedly covered the irrigation with a rock which prevented the water from reaching the suspect’s farm.
A heated argument then ensued between them when the victim did not answer the suspect, Canto said.
It then led to a commotion until the victim, who was armed with a bolo, allegedly hacked the suspect first in the back, and reportedly continued attacking him, Canto said.
Canto said that the two grappled with the bolo until the suspect, who was also armed with a sickle, allegedly hit his uncle in the face and neck.
The victim died on the spot, while the suspect was wounded.
The suspect was arrested later that night at his house after he was discharged from the hospital, Canto said.
Prior to the said incident, Canto said that the victim and the suspect had previous arguments related to their farms and animals.
The suspect is now awaiting the charges that will be filed against him.
