The local entertainment industry lost another pillar after Danny Javier of the popular group the APO Hiking Society passed away.
Recall that Danny’s musical group with Jim Paredes and Boboy Garrovillo is one of the pillars of Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
On Oct. 31, Justine Javier Long, daughter of Danny, confirmed the death of her 75-year-old father.
Celebrities paid tribute to Danny on social media.
Thespian Audie Gemora marked Oct. 31 as a “sad day.”
“To quote Don McLean, “the day the music died.” OPM has lost an icon – Danny Javier. Like all great artists, his legacy will live on,” Audie posted on Facebook along with their photo together.
Director Chris Martinez also shared a picture of them on Instagram. There, he thanked Danny for his accomplishments.
“Maraming salamat sa musika mo, Sir Danny Javier. Di namin malilimutan ang mga awitin mo. Binigyan mo kami ng insiprasyon para gumawa ng mas marami pang sining. Salamat po. photo taken at #IDoBidooBidoo The Apo Hiking Society Movie Musical premiere night,” his caption read.
The vocal group The CompanY sent their “deepest and heartfelt condolences” to the family and friends of Danny.
They tweeted: “Tight hugs to Jim Paredes and Boboy Garovillo. The APO help built OPM to what it is now. Your legacies are cemented for the ages. Thank you for Danny.”
In the TikTok video attached to it, Danny could be seen posing with The CompanY’s Moy Ortiz, Annie Quintos, and Sweet Plantado.
Former actor-turned-politician Tito Sotto recalled their memories together.
On Twitter, Senator Sotto said: “Danny! We were together frm 1972 to 74. Last time we met was in Beverly Place Country Club few years ago. We always had our private jokes. The industry will miss you, my Friend, but you will now be singing for a far greater audience!”
Senator Bong Revilla Jr. condoled with the families of Danny. “Nakikiramay po tayo sa pagpanaw ng isa sa myembro ng Apo Hiking Society na si Mr. Danny Javier. Sadyang nakalulungkot po ang pagkawala ng isa sa mga naging pundasyon ng ating Original Pilipino Music o OPM. Rest in peace, Danny. Mananatili kaming nagpapasalamat sa musikang buong puso mong ibinahagi hindi lang sa aming mga Pilipino kundi sa buong mundo.”
