Germany will slow electricity bill increases next year by paying slightly under 13 billion euros in grid fees to the four high-voltage transmission system operator (TSO) businesses, according to Economy Minister Robert Habeck. “We are now ensuring that these cost increases are absorbed, avoiding an additional burden for industrial companies, small and medium-sized businesses, and consumers,” he said. “We will utilize about 13 billion euros to reduce costs.” The intervention stabilizes the fees, which would otherwise have tripled due to skyrocketing wholesale power prices and soaring TSO operations costs, according to Habeck. Transmission grid costs account for about 10% of home power bills, and up to a third in energy-intensive industries. Fess for distribution grids is the most expensive and has the most impact on households.
