CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A 24-year-old delivery rider was stabbed to death by unidentified men while he was on a date with his girlfriend on Coastal Road in Barangay Lapasan here at around midnight Sunday, July 17.
Family and friends have sought justice for the victim, Cris Semaña, of Western Kolambog, Barangay Lapasan.
Many of the victim’s friends have expressed sympathy and condolences through the victim’s Facebook account.
Mechie Mahayag, one of Semaña’s close friends since high school, was shocked when she found out that he has been killed.
“I was shocked earlier this morning (when she heard the news). I am very sad because he (Semaña) is really a good person and we are friends since high school,” Mahayag said in the vernacular.
The victim’s older brother thanked the police for handling the case and expressed hope that his brother’s girlfriend would surpass the traumatic experience to help the investigation.
He stressed that the only person who can help them with the case is her.
“What we need right now is for her (the victim’s girlfriend) to be okay and we hope that her trauma will be gone. Because she is the only one (who can provide further details),” Mark said in the vernacular. “I hope she will help herself to recover because she is the only one who can help us to solve this.”
Police Lt. Macario Linog Jr., Agora police station deputy commander, said that Cris and his girlfriend were dating in the area when the suspects approached and pointed a knife at them.
Linog said the victims were taken separately to a dark place in the area.
He said the victim sustained 10 stab wounds and the girlfriend told police that she was raped.
Police are still awaiting the result of the medico-legal examination for confirmation.
Linog said there could be three suspects in the incident as there was one lookout aside from the two individuals who approached the victims.
Police investigation is ongoing and they are currently looking at robbery as possible motive for the killing.
Lawmen urged the public to refrain from staying on the Coastal Road, especially during night as they could fall prey to criminals due to the darkness of the area.
