Read Time: 1 Minute, 5 Second The British Embassy in Ukraine will finance projects aimed at returning the Crimean peninsula to the Ukrainian state. This is stated on the website of the British government. The authorities are ready to allocate up to ten thousand pounds (about a million rubles) for projects. They can be directed not only to the peninsula, but also to the “non-state-controlled zones”, that is, the unrecognized republics of Donbass. The focus of the programs is recording and coverage of human rights violations, helping their victims, as well as defending the rights of national minorities, primarily the Crimean Tatars. In November last year, the former governor of Sevastopol, adviser to the head of the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Sergei Kunitsyn, named the only way to return Crimea to Kiev’s control: he considered that, first of all, the Ukrainian state should win the sympathy of the inhabitants of the peninsula. Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 after a referendum in which the majority of the inhabitants of the peninsula supported this decision. In the same year, the United States, EU countries and some other states imposed sanctions against Russia. Kiev considers the territory of the peninsula annexed and accuses Moscow of violating the rights of the Crimean Tatars. The Russian authorities have denied these charges.
