Twenty-two persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been released from the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City on parole and probation.
The immediate release of qualified PDLs is part of the program of Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gerald Q. Bantag to decongest its seven prison facilities in the country.
In a statement, SRPPF said that “probation and parole are privileges which allow criminal offenders to avoid prison or to be released from prison after serving only a portion of their sentence.”
This month of July, SRPPF said that 25 PDLs in its facility have been interviewed for possible grant of pardon, parole or executive clemency.
In 2021, BuCor released a total of 4,610 PDLs from its prison facilities nationwide.
