After Resident Evil Requiem, Leon Kennedy's actor wants to see Code Veronica remade: 'I think that would be one hell of a game'
Capcom's settled into a pretty rhythmic schedule: new game about mould, remake, another remake, new game about mould in a village, remake, and now, with Resident Evil Requiem, we've got our next new game. So what's next? Well, there are some rumours of a Requiem DLC, but otherwise it's a safe bet that there'll be yet another remake somewhere on the horizon.
But what should Capcom remake next? Resident Evil 5? Probably shouldn't touch that with a barge pole. Revelations? Markiplier's Iron Lung movie did well recently, so there's clearly an audience for it. Well, Nick Apostolides, Leon Kennedy's actor, recently put his two cents in and revealed that a Code Veronica remake is what's on his wishlist.
"I would like to see a Code Veronica get remade because that, to me, was a very challenging game," Apostolides says in an interview with PC Gamer's Midas Whittaker. "But the story of it was just so wild and weird, and I think if they did it in today's RE Engine with today's storytelling and grounded acting, I think that would be one hell of a game."
I couldn't agree more. Now we've got the bigguns (RE2 and RE4) out of the way, I think new and old Resi fans alike could really benefit from a Veronica remake. While I prefer some of the originals to their remakes, I still appreciate how remaking older games makes them more accessible to new fans who probably weren't alive when the original game released. Plus, who doesn't want to see Alfred being weird in higher res: "To see that game in the RE Engine, oh wow. If they announce that, I think fans are going to go ballistic."
But honestly, Capcom is currently on a generational run when it comes to RE right now, so I have faith that whatever comes next will be pretty sick. "Where I would like to see the series go is just to continue on the same path," Apostolides adds. "Since Biohazard, around that time when they really shifted their gears. This direction they're going in is just fantastic. I've loved everything they've done for the last seven / eight years. And I don't think they're showing any signs of slowing down. So just keep going, Capcom."
