A First-Class Flight with a Movie Star
This video, from “The New Yorker Presents” (Amazon Originals), is a dramatization of the short story “Roy Spivey,” by Miranda July, which appeared in the magazine in June, 2007. In it, a woman is bumped up to first class on a flight and finds herself seated next to Roy Spivey, a famous movie star whose love life fills the pages of the tabloid she has brought on board with her. “If I were a more self-assured person, I would not have volunteered to give up my seat on an overcrowded flight, would not have been upgraded to first class, would not have been seated beside him,” she says in July’s story. “This was my reward for being a pushover.”
