The 25 best tech companies to work for in 2016, according to employees

Job hunting site Glassdoor has once again peered into its massive database of employee reviews to come up with this list of the best tech companies to work for in 2016.

This research is part of it broader look at the 50 best places to work overall.

All of the companies on this list had at least 75 verified company and workplace factor ratings from U.S.-based employees between November 2, 2015 and October 30, 2016.

And all had an overall rating of at least 4 stars out of 5.  

No. 25: Square

Company: Square

Headquarters: San Francisco

Overall employee rating: 4.1 stars out of 5

What it does: Square turns a smartphone or tablet into a credit card reader and is a popular way for business owners, particularly small businesses, to accept credit cards. Square was founded by CEO Jack Dorsey who is also CEO of Twitter.

An employee says:

"Pros: All-around great company. Very mission driven company. People really care about the work. Amazingly strong exec team.  Jack is an exceptional visionary and great to work with. A fantastic culture and work environment. When something isn't working, the company moves quickly to fix it. Great perks and benefits. 

Cons: Sometimes hard to be promoted from within. People from the outside seem to get better deals which can be frustrating." 



No. 24: Cisco

Business Insider

Company: Cisco

Headquarters: San Jose, CA

Overall employee rating: 4.1 stars out of 5

What it does: Cisco Systems is the world's biggest manufacturer of computer network equipment and it also builds security, videoconferencing and collaboration technology.

An employee says

"Pros: flexibility, great people, technical innovation, work life balance.

Cons: increasing bureaucracy, rewards increasingly concentrated only at the top."



No. 23: VMware

Company: VMware

Headquarters: Palo Alto, CA

Overall employee rating: 4.0 stars out of 5

What it does: VMware is a leader in a market called "virtualization" which is software that allows computer servers to run more efficiently. It also makes software that manages mobile devices. It is now mostly owned by Dell Enterprise.

An employee says: 

"Pros: Industry leading technology, Honorable core beliefs, and phenomenal culture, Passionate leadership at all levels, starting at the top, Benefits are second to none, Ability to make a ton of money, Amazing work/life balance.

Cons: Cumbersome internal sales process, Parent org ownership, 401K matching is capped, Geographically dispersed support teams - timezone and language barrier."
