Texas woman sues over injuries she says caused by Takata airbag
A Texas woman has sued American Honda Motor Co, Inc. and the U.S. subsidiary of airbag maker Takata Corporation for at least $1 million, claiming she was badly injured when the ammonium nitrate propellant in her car exploded in a low-speed accident. Takata's air bag inflators, which contain ammonium nitrate, have been linked to at least 16 deaths, mainly in the United States, and more than 150 injuries and resulted in the largest vehicle recall in history. The lawsuit filed late on Monday in a state district court in Houston claims Takata has known for more than two decades that ammonium nitrate is "dangerous unstable" but continued using it as a propellant because of its low cost.
