– Cooreman helped Akwa United finished 14th on the final standings at the just concluded NPFL

Belgian tactician Maurice Cooreman has been sacked by the management of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Akwa United.

Cooreman who is a veteran gaffer in the Nigeria’s top flight football was kicked out of the club on Wednesday, October 19, after being accused of indiscipline which affected the club at the just concluded NPFL season.

In a statement made available to NAIJ.com, the spokesman of the club Uwem Ekoh disclosed that the management were not comfortable with the Belgian’s spate of discipline faux which led to multiple suspensions and queries.

“Yes, the management have decided to terminate the appointment of coach Cooreman ahead of the new season.

“We have reviewed the past season, and it is obvious that the management needed to make some changes,” Ekoh stated.

Cooreman, 73, will not be the only one to face the exit doors as the management of the club have also kicked out his assistant Ere Dokubo who has spent five years at the club.

The club has however ordered the two affected coaches to hand over all the club’s properties in their custody to the team manager of the club.

Maurice Cooreman is not new as far as coaching job is concerned in Nigeria as he has managed clubs like Ocean Boys, NPA, Bendel Insurance, Lobi Stars, Gombe United, Warri Wolves, Kaduna United and Enyimba.

Earlier, Plateau United confirmed the departure of their coach Zachary Baraje.

Recall that Mohammed Baba Ganaru was the first gaffer who resigned at Kano Pillars after failing to give the Sai Masugida a continental ticket. Fidelis Ilechukwu also resigned at MFM FC of Lagos.
