Super Eagles winger Ahmed Musa has not sparkled with Premier League Champions Leicester City after making a big summer money move from CSKA Moscow.
The former Kano Pillars forward has been unable to pin-down a starting place with the Foxes since the 2016/17 season started and has been coming on rarely as a second half subtitute.
Musa’s position in the national has also been threatened following the certain rise of form from Moses Simon who started ahead of him in the 2 – 1 win against Zambia in Ndola.
Here are the 4 reasons Musa is struggling at Leicester
1. Big money move
Before the arrival of Algeria’s Islam Slimani, the 24-year-old was purchased for a club-record £16.6m from Russian Champions CSKA Moscow and the pressure of meeting the requirements of a transfer record has probably affected his performance.
2. Style of football
The Nigerian international has spent four seasons in the Russian Premier League so switching to the robust English style of football might have taken a toll on the most consistent Super Eagles player in Europe.
3. Adapting to Ranieri’s tactics
The Italian manager has been at the King Power Stadium for two years and have kept some the same crop of players for those same number of years but Musa needs more time to fit into the tactical plans of Ranieri.
4. He is contention with Riyad Mahrez position
Playing Mahrez out of his favourite right-wing position because of Musa will be the most difficult decision for Claudio Ranieri to make and the only thing the Italian could do is play the Nigerian out of position which has affected his impact in team.
