Tukur Burutai urges unity among Niger Delta militants

Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai, the chief of army staff, has asked the representatives of the militants in the Niger Delta militants to come with an agreement with each other on the crucial issues they are going to discuss with the federal government.

Mr Burutai stressed that rapid increase in numbers of groups claiming to be Niger Delta militants doesn’t demonstrate their willingness to move for peace.
The information was made public after a closed door meeting between Mr Burutai, leadership of police, heads of the department of state services and representatives of oil companies in south-south Nigeria on Monday in Rivers state.
Touching on the “exercise crocodile smile” General Burutai explained that it shouldn’t be viewed as an invasion in the region. However, he said, it doesn’t matter that the army would ignore anyone’s action that threatens the peace of the Niger Delta.
Recall that the exercise was fomally launched to bring peace and security into the region torn apart by groups of militants willing to control economic assets in the region.

The soldier are also checking criminal activities like kidnapping, militancy and piracy and other forms of criminal activities in support of the civil authority.
Besides, the action has humanitarian aspect: the logistics build up and free medical outreach for Sapele communities were organised in Delta state.
