Will Smith Drops An Impromptu 'Summertime' Performance During A 'Late Show' Commercial Break
It was May of 1991 and Will Smith was (probably) decked out in neon parachute pants. DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince had just wrapped their fourth studio album, and just in time for the hot months, they would drop “Summertime” as their lead single. The tasty early ’90s groove would go on to win the duo a Grammy for best rap performance and even spend time at #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and if you were alive at the time, you heard “Summertime.” It was impossible to escape.
