The ANC has called for peaceful elections as millions headed out to vote this morning.
|||Johannesburg - The ANC has called for peaceful elections as millions headed out to vote on Wednesday morning.
There were reports that police had to remove some rocks off roads that had been placed on some routes to voting stations in the in the volatile Vuwani area in Limpopo.
“The ANC joins South Africans in calling for a peaceful election and urges all our members and structures to actively play their part in ensuring the election takes place incident-free.
“The ANC further calls on its members who will be voting in areas where there have been high levels of political tension, to exercise tolerance and restraint, even in the face of provocation,” said spokesman Zizi Kodwa.
The acting national commissioner of the SA Police Service, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phalane, will address the media later on Wednesday on the latest security arrangements.
There are a number of hot spots throughout the country. In Vuwani, the army was sent a few days ago.
