Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie 2 production delayed because of Brexit
The sequel to the Mrs Brown’s Boys film has been delayed due to Brexit.
According to show creator and star Brendan O’Carroll, production on Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie 2 has been stalled because of market instability following the EU Referendum.
Speaking to The Sun, he said: “We were planning to do it this year, but the numbers weren’t right.
“The Brexit drop in sterling makes it a lot more expensive for the studio than it would have been previously.”
O’Carroll, whose TV sitcom of the same name has a large fan base, is keen to resume production when the pound stabilises.
“The plot and outline are there and ready to go,” he said. “We know what’s going to happen and how we’re going to do it.”
Despite receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics and a staggering 7% on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2014 film was a huge commercial success.
The popular film topped the UK box office for two consecutive weeks and made an impressive £20 million.
The Irish sitcom has a dedicated viewership and has drawn large audiences throughout its three seasons and numerous specials.
A live episode of the sitcom was aired last weekend as part of the BBC’s sitcom season, celebrating the genre.
O’Carroll recently announced that the BBC had commissioned new episodes, with Christmas specials expected to run for another four years.
“I have been commissioned to write another two Christmas specials and the BBC are expecting Christmas specials up until 2020,” he told The Mirror.
