Another Palestinian was shot dead by Israeli forces on Sunday north of the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military claimed that he was trying to carry out a stabbing attack on their soldiers. The Palestinian health ministry confirmed in a statement that Rami Awartani, 31, was shot dead by Israeli forces near the Huwwara checkpoint, south of Nablus city. Press TV reports: Palestine’s Ma’an news agency said the young Palestinian was shot dead on Sunday afternoon at the Huwwara checkpoint near the city of Nablus. Israeli media said the man had attempted to stab Israeli soldiers stationed at the checkpoint, adding that Israeli troops shoot three to four rounds to his chest and seriously injured him. An Israeli army spokesperson claimed that the Palestinian exited his vehicle and charged soldiers at the checkpoint, which is an entrance to Nablus. There were no reports of injury on the side of Israeli soldiers. The death of the Palestinian is the latest to come in more than nine months of unrest in the occupied territories.
