10 Nigerian-English sayings that are totally wrong and dumb

Nigerian’s have their ways of making their own sentence for their own convenience and even the educated ones understand these terms used generally by Nigerians.

Here are few lists of the wrong words used by Nigerians

1. Dress small now: This word is mostly used by people in public transports, for instance you were in a bus and the bus stop to pick a passenger, and if he or she is not sitting comfortably the next thing will be “abeg dress small now”, without hesitation or any thoughts of whether the sentence is right or not.

2. Have they brought light? : Due to the fact that our power supply is not constant we get to over rejoice whenever there is any blink of light and then this dumb question follows “have they brought light”?

3. The film is sweet: When talking about a previous movie seen by two or more people, because of the over excitement, the next thing you’ll hear one of them say is “the film is sweet”.

4. Please help me slow that fan: This word is used indirectly when trying to tell someone to reduce the high velocity of a fan and then will just say “please help me slow that fan”.

5. Mummy have come: Nigerian children gets over excited at the sight of their mother, because of the joy in them they scream loud to their siblings and say “mummy have come”.

6. Put it inside the lylon: This word is not even lylon in a layman word it is pronounced nylon but in the normal English term it is called plastic bag. This word “put it inside the lylon” is heard most when you get to buy something.

7. Oya come and be going: “Oya come and be going” is a term used even by literates, it is used in different forms.

8. I kukuma don’t have your time: this word is used when trying to ignore somebody telling the person you dont have time for what the person is trying to engage you with.

9. Shebi you have BB charger: This question is common among students in the higher institution.

10. If I hear pim, you go hear ween: This is one of the terms used by Nigeria mothers after beating a child and the child begins to cry they will say “if I hear pim, you go hear ween” which literarily means if a hear you cry, ill deal with you.
