Portugal are through to the second round stage at the ongoing European championship in France, although they finished third in Group F, but qualified among the best losers.
Captain of the side Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace against a well determined Hungary to book a place in the last 16.
In a very entertaining episode and a six-goal-thriller, Hungary took the lead in the 19th minute through a Zoltan Gera strike but Nani equalised with just three minutes to the end of the first half as both teams went into the break 1-1.
Like a bull on the battle ground, Hungary restored their lead with just two minutes into the second half through a powerful strike by Balazs Dzsudzsak which was deflected into the net.
Ronaldo’s moment came three minutes later when he intelligently back-heeled Nani’s low pass in the box the ball into the net to make it 2-2.
Hungary’s Balazs Dzsudzsak got his brace in the 55th minute from a re-bound after his free kick was blocked by the ‘two-man-wall’ before he left footed the ball into the far corner to put his side ahead for a third time.
Ronaldo leveled things up in the 62nd minute when he rose above Hungary’s defence line up to head into the net, and that was how things ended. Final score: Hungary 3-3 Portugal.
