Panic over earthquake in Oyo state
– The House of Representatives has mandated its committee on emergency and disaster preparedness and habitat to investigate reports of persistent earth vibration Oyo state
– House member, Olajide Olatubosun who raised the motion says buildings and other physical structures in the affected areas shake violently any time the earth vibration occurs
– The House also mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to urgently provide camps and relief materials for the affected IDPs to ameliorate their suffering
Persistent earth vibration in Saki-west local government area of Oyo state has sent panic among residents who have abandoned their homes and farmlands.

This has prompted the House of Representatives to mandate its committee on emergency and disaster preparedness and habitat to investigate the reports of the persistent earth vibration in the area.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Olajide Olatubosun who raised the motion under matters of urgent public which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote said buildings and other physical structures in the affected areas shook violently any time the earth vibration occurred.
The lawmaker stated that the earth vibration had created a large number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who he said had vacated their homes, farmlands and places of business.
He added that the situation had brought untold hardship to the people of the area who already cut-off from their homes and sources of livelihood.
The House also mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), to urgently provide camps and relief materials for the affected IDPs to ameliorate their suffering.
In another development, 10 people reportedly died as a result of fire disaster and four others lost their lives as a result of building collapse in Jigawa state according to the state’s executive secretary of State Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

NEMA stated that the disaster of the fire outbreak was aggregated following the recent windstorm in the state, noting that the rural dwellers must desist from storing hay and cornstalk in their houses.
The agency warned the people in the state, particularly the farmers against storing farm by-products considered inflammable in their houses, saying instead such by products should be stored in the farm.
