Shoe designer Sophia Webster reveals customer relationship as motivation behind new Mount Street shop
Shoe designer Sophia Webster opens her first bricks and mortar shop at the prestigious address of 124 Mount Street tomorrow.
Nestled between luxury stores including Loewe and Balenciaga, she joins a host of other British designers who have opened boutiques on the street in the past few years, including Roksanda, Christopher Kane and Simone Rocha.
"It took us three months to get it ready," says Webster, who worked with interior specialists Studio Suss and Studio XAG to outfit the shop in her signature pastel colours and add witty touches such as shiny high heels used as pegs on the walls.
"I’m thrilled. It will give me a first-hand point of contact with my customers," she says, having already built her own successful e-commerce site and a social media following that includes 701k Instagram followers.
The former apprentice to cordwainer Nicholas Kirkwood (who has a boutique across the street), Webster launched her eponymous line in February 2013 and quickly became known for her colourful, playful designs with signature butterfly motifs and baubles heels.
In March 2016 she was announced as the winner of the BFC/Vogue Designer Fashion Fund. She beams, “It’s the start of a very exciting new chapter.”
