Nobody likes cable clutter. Having a mess of wires on or around your desk is an unsightly, space-chewing side effect of owning tech, and while those cables aren't too hard to tidy up, they're also not something you can truly get away from.
What you can do, however, is hide them. At least, that's the idea behind the Bluelounge CableBox, a simple device that covers up a surge protector's worth of cables under a more aesthetically pleasing piece of scenery.

Put another way, it's a box. A plastic box. But it's a good-looking one — much more elegant than a bunch of cords, at least — that's flame-retardant and sturdily put together, with a matte finish that's smooth to the touch. It's as simple to "use" as you'd expect: You just stuff your power strip(s) underneath, and slot any plugged-in cords through the two openings on its sides. If you need to plug in something new, you can pop open its top.
At 15.6 by 5.7 inches, the box's large enough to fit all but the biggest of strips, and comes with 10 twist ties to help sort your cables before tossing them in. It does what it should. As of this writing, it has a 4.6 rating after 390 user reviews on Amazon. It's also worth noting that Bluelounge sells a CableBox Mini for those with less room to cover.
Now it's time to state the obvious: $30 is a pretty good amount to spend on a big plastic box, even if it is helpful and well-made. It's absolutely possible to save your cash and go the DIY route. But if you'd rather do things the simple way, then throwing money at the CableBox should be an easy out for a common problem.
