According to her, she joined Occupy Nigeria in 2012 but is not interested in the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) protest this time around.
The former presidential candidate in a series of tweets on Wednesday, May 18, said the reason why she is not protesting is not because she supports President Muhammadu Buhari but things could be better handled.
1. In 2012 I went from Ife to Lagos to join in the Occupy Nigeria protests at the Freedom Park in Lagos. This time I’m not protesting.

2. And it’s not because I “stand with Buhari”. Yes, there are serious challenges, but things could be better handled.

3. My concern now is more about unions. Should they merely seek to defend members’ welfare, not care about the nation’s total wellbeing?
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
4. It’s time for unions to “diversify” strategies; these constant strikes haven’t helped much anyway.
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
5. Also, they should care about members’ productivity & the quality of the products? If Naija products can’t compete, what’s the point?
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
6. Unions should also intervene before decisions are made – lobbying the legislators, protesting policies that may adversely affect us all.

7. When ex CBN Gov Sanusi revealed that 25% of basic budget was consumed by NASS, what did Labour do then? We should seek to prevent such.
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
8. Even now, much is still going on that workers should rise against. I’d be glad to picket NASS till they cut their pay, make it all public
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
9. I’m saying, let’s all focus on how to develop the country, not just be concerned about the slice of the national cake that we’re getting.

10. Let NASS not say they sympathise with us & call on govt to implement palliatives. Let’s ask them to reduce their own portion first.
— Remi Sonaiya (@oluremisonaiya) May 18, 2016
11. That is, let’s absolutely insist on accountability from our leaders and at the same time develop our nation through quality productivity

The labour and the civil society gave the Federal Government till midnight on Tuesday, May 17, to reverse the increase of fuel price or face an indefinite national strike.
NLC had vowed to go ahead with its scheduled nationwide strike today, May 18 after walking out of the meeting held with the representatives of the Federal Government.
The union said they were angered by the decision of the Federal Government to proceed to court, despite existing negotiation which was at the instance of the government.
